JACKSONVILLE - Tight end continues to be a theme.

So does secondary. And offensive line. And that's perhaps the biggest theme when examining analysts' opinions of the Jaguars nearly three months from the 2023 NFL Draft:

There's no specific theme at all.

With the Miami Dolphins forfeiting the No. 21 selection, the Jaguars will select No. 24 overall in Round 1 of this year's draft - deep enough that projections are largely guesswork. And the 13 analysts in this week's second jaguars.com mock draft tracker varied widely about how they believe the Jaguars will use the selection.

Tight end remains a popular projection, with two analysts - including Joe Broback of the Pro Football Network - projecting Michael Mayer of Notre Dame with the selection.

"There's a debate about who the best tight end is in this class, but Michael Mayer is in every one of those conversations," Broback wrote.

Eric Edholm of NFL.com projected Georgia tight end Darnell Washington there.

"Jacksonville could use more help defensively, but adding a king-sized blocker and receiver for Trevor Lawrence makes a ton of sense," Edholm wrote.

Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports projected Georgia offensive lineman Broderick Jones to the Jaguars at No. 24 overall.

"He's not yet a finished product but he has the athleticism and strength to be a difference-maker when he puts it all together," Wilson wrote.

Secondary was the most popular choice for the Jaguars among this week's 13 analysts, with four projecting a safety or a corner at No. 24. Ian Cummings of the Pro Football Network projected the Jaguars trading with the Washington Commanders and selecting Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon at No. 16 overall.

Bryan Fischer of Athlon Sports projected South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith at No. 24.

"The Jags had a ton of comebacks down the stretch last year but would be better served if they didn't get in the position to need to do that in the first place," Fischer wrote. "Smith should help with that, providing an aggressiveness and playmaking ability that would serve an athletic defense well."

Arif Hasan of the Pro Football Network projected Alabama safety Brian Branch there because "Branch can play in the box and defend the run and has shown physicality uncommon for the position."

"He also has experience at cornerback on the inside and outside to complement his in-box and free safety play," Hasan wrote. "The Jaguars could use that versatility and need someone to help out Tyson Campbell, an emerging star at cornerback."
