Chicago Red Stars midfielder Sarah Woldmoe announced her retirement on Wednesday.
"After the birth of my son in August, I have decided to retire from professional soccer to be close to family," she said in a team news release. "Thank you to the Chicago Red Stars organization for the support and for the opportunity to play at the highest level. Thank you to the fans as well! I'm excited for what lies ahead, and I look forward to cheering on the Red Stars."
An Indiana native, Woldmoe joined the Red Stars before the 2021 season from Sky Blue FC (now NJ/NY Gotham FC). She sat out the 2022 season.
In six MLS seasons between the Red Stars and Sky Blue, Woldmoe, 30, posted 13 goals and nine assists in 127 regular-season games (120 starts).
In 2021, Woldmoe played in 28 games (23 starts) in all competitions, including playoffs, when the Red Stars reached the NWSL finals.
