The Chicago Fire have signed standout Academy midfielder Sergio Oregel to a Homegrown Player contract that runs through 2025.

The contract, which begins on Jan. 1, also has a club option for 2026.

Oregel, 16, has been with the Fire Academy since 2018, when he began play at the U-14 level.

"I want say a big thank you to my family, my friends and my coaches who helped me get to this point," Oregel said. "It's a dream come true and I'm excited to start playing for my hometown club."

Oregel helped the Fire's U-19 squad win the MLS NEXT U-19 championship in July and was named the tourney's top player.

"Sergio is a talented young midfielder with excellent vision and a strong passion for the game," Fire technical director Sebastian Pelzer said. "We look forward to officially welcoming him to the first team and to continue being a part of his development."

Including Oregel, the Fire will have 10 homegrown players under contract next season.
