Former Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Juninho announced his retirement Tuesday.
The 31-year-old Brazilian played seven of his eight MLS seasons with the Galaxy (2010-15, 2019) and helped the team with the 2011, 2012 and 2014 MLS Cups.
"After a fantastic journey in professional soccer, I have decided to retire," he posted on Twitter. "... Although the end came sooner than I would have liked, I'm very proud of what I accomplished during my soccer career."
Including one season with the Chicago Fire (2017), Juninho appeared in 210 MLS matches (197 starts) and collected 19 goals and 25 assists. He scored a career-high seven goals in 2012.
The Galaxy declined his option after the 2019 season.
Juninho also played professionally with Tijuana in Liga MX from 2016-19.
