Death of teacher Candice Berner likely due to wolf attack, according to medical examiner

Candice Berner, 32, a teacher originally from Pennsylvania, was attacked while out jogging near Chignik Lake in Alaska.
Her badly mauled body was found in a pool of blood by snowmobilers and the State Medical Examiner has said the cause of death was “multiple injuries due to animal mauling.”
There were extensive wolf tracks around her body.
If wolves were the culprits, it would be the first cause of a wolf-related death in 50 years in the US.
Colonel Audie Holloway, of the Alaskan State Troopers, said: "There's no other carnivores in that area that are out and active. There were wolf tracks all around the body, and drag marks associated with those tracks."
She stopped short of concluding that wolves were to blame, however, insisting that DNA tests would confirm their involvement in the teacher's death.
Candice Berner had been teaching in Alaska for only a few months since August.  Email this story to a friend

Teacher mauled to death by wolves
I live in the heart of the Tongass National Forest. My 13yo walks the 2 miles through old growth timber to get to school every week day. The wolves are not a problem even tho there are great numbers of them around.The bears on the other hand are dangerous and because of them my son brings his pitbull(120lbs), and carries a 44mag pistol.(to protect the pitbull) He’s never had to shoot one but the dog does his job fairly often. I know some would be shocked that a 13 yo carries a gun to school, but there is no way I’d let him go without it.

hi,
impressive your son history, a children carrying a gun to the school does’nt seem a good practice thought as you explained it’s necessary.
Anyway what does the dog dog during the class time? does all the kids carry they dog?
