Captain Cook artefact to be auctioned
Chicago News.Net Wednesday 20th August, 2008
Christie's auction house in London will auction an Aboriginal boomerang collected by the explorer Captain James Cook.
The auctioneer says the antique throwing stick was probably collected by the British naval officer during his first trip to Australia in 1770. It expects the relic to fetch up to 60,000 pounds.
Cook was the first European to make contact with Australia's east coast.
He and his crew collected many artifacts during their voyages, including two aboriginal clubs that are also up for sale.
